Lonely train whistle ya hear late at night
There's a man at the engine feedin' fuel in the fire
Lights up the tunnel he see as his life
Movin' thru his darkness one day at a time
He's learned how to fall
Son of a preacher, grew to be a teacher so strong
He can heal the pain of an army in the space of a song
The soles of ten men on his boots he's worn
Had his destiny written the day he was born
When he gets knocked down, he stands up tall
If he's learned anything at all
If he's gonna make it,
He's gotta learn how to fall
Learn how to fall
Never know he suffers, there's no pity in his talk
This cat's poetry in motion when he's too weak to walk
He's got a courage like I've never known
A lesser man woulda given up a long time ago
Now when I get knocked down
I stand up tall
If he's taught me anything at all
If I'm gonna make it
I gotta learn how to fall
I've seen him steal a boat when I thought he would drown
Seen him so damn high thought he'd never come down
But it must be tough to sober up as you face
Hits the ground
He's my good friend and he's been brought to his knees
Yet he puts more life in one day than you and I in a week
He's dealing with dyin' by healing everywhere he goes
He's the only legend that I've ever known
Now when I get knocked down
I stand up tall
If he's taught me anything at all
If I'm gonna make it
I gotta learn how to fall
Lonely train whistle ya hear late at night
That's Steve at the engine feeding fuel in the fire...
